Legislative Update

An array of bills have been drafted by individual members of the Connecticut House and Senate that concern children's issues, especially early care and education.  The Alliance will follow these bills and provide updates as they progress.

Democratic leaders plan to bring the newly sworn in state legislature back to the Capitol on January 14th to take action on Governor Rell's deficit mitigation plan.  The Governor had called for a special session to deal with the growing state budget deficit on Friday, January 2nd.  Democratic leaders opted to wait to avoid the cost of a special session, and to allow the new legislature to handle the crisis.

The Connecticut General Assembly began their 2009 session yesterday by swearing in the members of the House and Senate and with a State of the State address from Governor Rell.  It was a day of excitement and optimism despite the real challenges that confront us.
