Abstract:
Ten years ago, the school board in Fairfax County (Virginia) had set forward a motion to bring full-day kindergarten to all of its 139 elementary schools. Today, nearly one-third are still without it. And with the economy still in a state of uncertainty, the superintendent is contemplating a step backward; rolling back the number of schools that currently offer the full-day program and only to those that serve the county's neediest children. Parents and early education advocates are troubled by the idea to scale back.
