CAEYC Awards Committee is seeking nominations for awards to be givein out at the Annual Conference Reception on Oct. 23, 2009 in Waterbury.

2009 Connecticut AEYC Awards

The Connecticut Association for the Education of Young Children recognizes that there are many individuals who are dedicated to Connecticut’s young children and their families. The work done in the early childhood field needs to be celebrated.  In recognition of the extremely critically important work done every day CAEYC Awards will identify acknowledge and bring honor and attention not only to individual award recipients, but to the early childhood profession and CAEYC.

The CAEYC Awards Committee is seeking nominations for the following awards to be given at the CAEYC Annual Conference Reception on October 23, 2009 at Holiday Inn in Waterbury, CT. 

Early Childhood Outstanding Service Award: To recognize an individual in the field of early childhood education who has made significant career contributions to the field, which has had an impact on the needs, rights and the well being of children throughout the state. One award will be given in this category to a teacher, family child care provider, program administrator or other individual working in the ECE field.  When nominating a Teacher or Family Childcare Provider, evidence of developmentally appropriate practice should be presented in the description of Outstanding Service and in letters of support from staff and parents. 

Nominations in this category may also recognize outstanding directors, principals and other individuals working in early childhood programs. Nominees should be advocates for quality programming which meets the needs of staff and families while also providing administrative leadership and support to ensure developmentally appropriate practice. Evidence of the criteria should be presented in the description of outstanding service and letters of support from staff and families.  

In an effort to recognize the diversity within the field of early childhood, CAEYC encourages applications from full day child care centers, half day preschool or nursery school programs, school age child care, kindergarten and primary education, centers serving children with special needs, and multi-site organizations. 

Citizens Award: Any one of these categories:  
a. To members of the Connecticut News Media for increasing public awareness of children's rights and needs during the past year. 
b. To public Officials on the local, state or national levels representing Connecticut who have been sensitive to children's issues during the past year. 
c. To community leaders who consistently act as child advocates. 
d. To authors from Connecticut who have excited the minds of young children or early childhood professionals. 
e. To Connecticut artists (dancers, actor, etc.) who have creatively expressed issues of children or who have helped children discover a fresh way to learn. 
f. To Connecticut inventors who have created toys or equipment from exceptionally safe, creative leaning opportunities.  
More than one award may be given.
