Smart Spending Will Close Education Gap

Date:
July, 2009
Abstract:
In an editorial featured in The Day of New London, the paper references a new report issued by ConnCAN, or the Connecticut Coalition for Achievement Now, that states that if it were just a matter of money to close the achievement gap between urban and suburban schools, the gap would be closed. But it's not just money and the gap is not closed. Despite relatively equally distributed education funding, Connecticut still has the largest achievement gap between poor and non-poor students. The solution is to invest money effectively and efficiently and award programs that work, according to the paper. The report states that charter and magnet schools are not adequately funded, despite their successes.
