The repercussions of the motion filed by the Attorney General’s Office to exclude children attending preschool programs approved and funded by the state, from the landmark school funding lawsuit, CCJEF v. Rell, will be discussed. We ask that the state withdraw its Motion for Protective Order re Preschool, which would limit the educational funding scope to primary and secondary education, starting with kindergarten. The press conference will take place at 10 a.m., Room 1B of the Legislative Office Building, on December 7. Following the press conference, letters will be hand-delivered to the Governor's Office and Attorney General's Office opposing the motion.

CT Charts-a-Course announced Connecticut was one of six states to receive an award at the 2011 National Registry Alliance Conference in Lake Geneva, WI and that it has reached the 10,000 mark on its registry.

The Alliance put together a press release following the successful New Britain Reads read-a-thon on July 19. It was submitted to the Hartford Courant I-Towns and will be submitted to the New Britain City Journal.

In the final hours of session, the House of Representatives voted for Connecticut’s youngest citizens by following in the footsteps of the Senate and passing S.B. 1103 – “An Act Concerning Early Childhood Education.” Among the bill’s components, S.B. 1103 sets up a two-year planning process to look at all funding streams and put together recommendations to the General Assembly and Governor Malloy’s administration to create a coordinated early childhood system. The bill calls for that system to be in place by 2013. The bill received bi-partisan support in the Senate on June 2.

Maggie Adair is officially the full-time director of the CT Early Childhood Alliance. During the 2011 legislative session, she split her time between the Alliance and CT Association for Human Services.

The CT Early Childhood Alliance compiled a fact sheet on the Children's Champions program for the media. The 2011 event took place June 6, 2011.

The Mayor's Office for Young Children in Hartford is hosting the CT Early Childhood Alliance's early childhood display at Hartford City Hall through the month of May.
