In the waning hours of the 2013 Legislative Session, H.B. 6359 failed to be brought up for a vote in the House or Senate. The following is a statement released by the CT Early Childhood Alliance on Thursday, June 6.

Governor Malloy and 27 legislators were recognized on June 3 by the CT Early Childhood Alliance for putting Connecticut's children front and center when shaping policy and working to engage early childhood advocates to create the most effective early childhood policy for the state. Governor Malloy was honored for his on-going commitment to Connecticut's youngest children and their families and for his vision of building a comprehensive, integrated, aligned early childhood system that works for children, their parents, teachers and community at large.

More than 250 organizations and individuals have offered their names in support of the proposed Office of Early Childhood. The CT Early Childhood Alliance will distribute the letter to every member of the General Assembly, asking for their support on the bill.

The Alliance will host a press conference to urge legislators to support HB 6359 - An Act Concerning an Early Childhood System.

On February 4, Governor Malloy unveiled his plans to create an Early Childhood Office (OEC) to better coordinate services aimed at improving outcomes for Connecticut's youngest children.

The Fairfield County Community Foundation recently awarded the CT early Childhood Alliance a grant for $25,000 to increase, improve and coordinate early childhood services for young children and their families.

The Alliance released a statement on July 10, following the governor's announcement that the towns and cities that will be receiving additional preschool slots through the state's School Readiness program had been chosen.

On June 16, Branford Early Childhood Collaborative will host the Alliance's early childhood display at the Branford Festival.

Children First Groton and the city of Groton are hosting a family safety day on June 2 in Groton.

The Northeast School Readiness Council, comprised of the towns of Killingly, Plainfield, Putnam and Sterling, will host "A Community Conversation" event on Tuesday, May 22, to present its community plan. It is one of the first regional plans completed.
